I Built My Life Around Winning. Here's What It Cost Me.

I built my life around winning.

I was a first-chair violinist, a top salesperson, built and sold a business, and became a nationally recognized entrepreneur after launching my company in 2008. In my first year of competitive cycling, I was ranked #2 in the United States.

From the outside, it looked like success.

Inside, it was constant pressure to achieve.

I didn’t stop. I was always moving to the next win, believing that if I achieved enough, I would finally feel enough.

It affected my presence, my relationships, my well-being, and my ability to be fully in my life.

Then, three laps from the finish line of a race I was determined to win, everything stopped.

A devastating crash left me with a traumatic brain injury. The doctors told my friends I wasn’t going to make it.

Somehow, I survived.

And I was forced into stillness.

Forced to rest. Forced to fight for my being.

In that stillness, I discovered what had been running my life all along:

The invisible patterns that shape how we think, feel, behave, and ultimately determine the results we create.

I call these Invisible Wins.

Invisible Wins live in how we think, feel, and behave, and show up in every result we create. We relate to others the way we relate to ourselves.

When we shift from fear to trust, from proving to purpose, and from constant striving to awareness, everything changes:

  • Leadership improves.

  • Relationships strengthen.

  • Well-being stabilizes.

  • Performance becomes sustainable.

We don’t change our lives by trying harder.

We change by becoming more aware.

Because who we are becoming determines what we create.

Success is what we achieve. An Invisible Win is who we become.

You deserve to invest in yourself.

With love,

Debra
